Leaders Are Trained, Not Born!
You and I have more in common than you think. For example, you were probably not a born leader either. I certainly didn’t have any natural leadership ability that others seem to have. Throughout school, I was a loner and being a follower wasn’t my thing either.
Successful leaders seek mentorship, coaching, and training
The truth is that very few successful leaders were born leaders. Successful leaders seek mentorship, coaching, and training. Finding someone to take them under their wing and bring out the best in them. Others are forced. In other words, due to situations or opportunities, they are forced to learn, make mistakes, and often bounce back on their own, becoming stronger and more resilient leaders than they were before.
We know a good leader makes all the difference in job satisfaction. Many leaders appreciate and support, communicate well and create a sense of purpose and belonging for their team. But if they aren’t, then the opposite means that even the simplest jobs become unbearable for everyone. I recently came across a Gallup poll that revealed that only about 10% of leaders possess the real-world skills necessary to manage others. In other words, they were placed in leadership positions without being mentored, coached, or trained, which is terrible. I’m sure we both agree there’s a better way.
